Maruti Suzuki Wagon R went on sale in India on January 23, 2019, and the car has received a generation upgrade after 8 years. The new 2019 Wagon R is completely different from the model sold in Japan, making it the third-generation model in India. The new Wagon R is based on the company versatile 5th generation Heartect platform, which makes it stronger and more rigid than the previous generation model. Up front, the car comes with a new face, with new twin headlamps, a larger grille with a chrome slat at the centre, and an all-new bumper with a large central airdam with trapezoidal housing for foglamps on either side.
The increased length of the car is quite apparent from its profile, and the car comes with the company’s signature floating roof design element.The new Wagon R’s comes with bold shoulder lines and sharper character lines along the wheel arches.
The rear section of the car has also been heavily updated and now the car comes with a new set of larger vertically positioned taillamps, which are placed higher, besides the windshield. The tailgate is also new and now features a rear windshield wiper and a chrome slat with the Wagon R lettering at the centre. The bumper is also new and beefier and comes with black cladding for protection. Maruti offers the new Wagon R in six colour options - Superior White, Silky Silver, along with four new colours - Magma Grey, Pearl Nutmeg Brown, Pearl Autumn Orange, and Pearl Poolside Blue.

The new 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R now comes with a more upmarket cabin with a nicer-looking dashboard that comes with two-tone black and beige treatment. The centre stage is taken by a touchscreen infotainment system, with a manual air-con system placed below it. On either side of the infotainment system, the cabin features vertically placed air vents with round vents on eitherend of the dashboard, but the aircon system is just a manual unit and not an automatic one.
The car also gets a new steering wheel that comes with controls for music and telephony, while the new instrument cluster seems to offer more information. The 2019 Wagon R also gets new fabric upholstery in match beige tones with increased space both for the front and the rear occupants.

Safety features including Driver airbag, ABS (antilock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), front seatbelts reminder, speed alert system and rear parking sensors are standard across variants.
Engine and Performance
The new Maruti Suzuki Wagon R comes with two petrol engine options under the hood – a 1.0-litre three-cylinder motor and a bigger 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-Series engine as well. The 1.2-litre is the same motor that has been powering the likes of the Swift and Baleno, and it offers the same output of 82 bhp and develops 113 Nm of peak torque. The 1.0-litre unit makes 67 bhp and 90 Nm of peak torque. Both engines are paired to a 5-speed gearbox, along with an optional 5-speed AMT or AGS unit as well.
Price and Mileage
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is priced in India from Rs. 4.19 lakh to Rs. 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The car now also offers an increased mileage of 22.5 kmpl in the 1.0-litre version and 21.5 kmpl in the 1.2-litre version, in both manual and AMT options. In India, the car competes with the likes of the new Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago, and the Renault Kwid among others.
